History

Central prison Peshawar is one of the oldest jail of this province as founded in 1854 however google have different point of view according to google this jail was founded in 1884. The initial capacity of this jail was 450 however today this jail has the leading capacity of 3000 prisoners. Earlier this jail is the only jail to have hanging till death punishment for condemned prisoner.
This jail have housed special individual like Bacha Khan , Qazi Hussain Ahmad , Shakeel Afridi, Molana Sufi Muhammad ….
Currently this jail is called the face of prison department and known as “THE CORRECTIONAL CENTER”.

Objectives

Central Prison Peshawar is one of the oldest and most significant correctional facilities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Established with the aim of ensuring secure custody and lawful confinement of under-trial and convicted prisoners, the institution also focuses on rehabilitation and reformation.
The prison houses a variety of facilities and departments, including Security and Custody Units to maintain discipline and order.
Rehabilitation Programs offering vocational training such as leatherwork, carpentry, tailoring, embroidery, and baking.
Educational Services with basic literacy and secondary-level education for inmates.
Healthcare Unit providing medical care and psychological support.
Religious and Moral Counseling to promote ethical and spiritual development.
Welfare Section supporting family connections and legal aid.
Central Prison Peshawar operates under the supervision of the KP Prisons Department and remains committed to modern correctional practices that emphasize reform, education, and reintegration into society.
